What’s YOUR Word?

Posted by on Apr 15, 2017 in Blog | 0 comments

Mine is FAT. In big capital letters. Nothing lowercase about it. I carry it with me everywhere. Always have. Even at my thinnest, it was there, lurking in the dark, relegating me to a life without flour, sugar and fat. It is the Word that is engraved on the shackles that I wear. I display it like a badge and if you touch it…you will experience an array of behaviors. Funny thing is, you don’t have to do or say anything to evoke a reaction. I only have to THINK that you are judging or rejecting me. The dialogue in my head goes right to: “you’re...

Love it or Leave it…

A critical decision….fall  in love with your current gig, or ditch it to do the work you were meant to do? I conducted an informal Survey on FB a while back.   I asked a question that I’ve been posing to people for years:  If money was no object, and you could be doing anything with your life, what would you be doing?  Over the next day or so, the answers piled up.  The responses were fascinating and varied.  When I tallied up the results, I was astounded to see that of the 60 or so responses I received there was only one person who was living a professional life that they...

What do you want NOW?

Posted by on Apr 13, 2015 in Blog | 4 comments

You really CAN do, have, or be anything you desire. How do you feel when you read that? Do you believe me? Or do you want to kick me.  Depending on where you are in your life right now, you either support that statement or you want to stomp on it with combat boots like you did your copy of “The Secret”. Well, move over my friend, because most days, I ebb and flow between both.  When things are going my way, I love taking credit for it.  “Hey!  Look what I made happen!”  When things are not going my way, I sometimes look for someone to blame. (Yes, even life coaches have crappy...

How to Win at the Game of Life…

Posted by on Mar 17, 2015 in Blog | 0 comments

If I’ve learned anything as a life coach, it is to notice. Notice how I am feeling and subsequently what I am thinking to make me feel that way. This was a VERY new skill for me and one I continue to practice daily. You see, I had built a life around perceiving what OTHERS felt and filling their needs. This came in handy and made me a great friend, daughter, sister, wife, mother and employee . I was able to read and anticipate the needs of others and deliver what they wanted. Nice huh? For them, yes, but for me? Not so much. The concept of noticing my own needs has been a game...

Kill or be killed….it’s your choice.

“If you don’t fire someone,” said my boss, “I’ll have to come in and fire YOU.” I had heard about those types of threats in Corporate America, but had never been accosted by one before.  I was dumbfounded, not by the idea of having to fire someone, but because there wasn’t a good business reason to do it.  I was being TOLD that it wouldn’t LOOK GOOD if every other business unit fired someone and I didn’t.  Even though I had whittled my headcount down by eliminating vacated positions in lieu of terminating valuable employees, I was clearly being given an ultimatum of the...

Planting the Seeds of Change

Posted by on Aug 1, 2014 in Blog | 2 comments

If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times. “What are you going to do now?” After a successful career in the media industry, people were befuddled by my answer. “I’m leaving the business and starting something new”. After people picked themselves off the floor from disbelief, the next series of unsolicited questions and comments began: “But WHY? This is what you know!” and “Are you sure? You’re no spring chicken you know”… I wasn’t worrying about the seasons or about poultry as I began the process of peeling back the layers of my previous career. Through coaching,...

Place the mask over your OWN nose and mouth first…

I knew that I was in deep doo-doo when my brand new boss introduced me to his right hand man who he brought to run the market: “Meet Clancy” he said with a smirk, “He’s a half day guy!…….works 7a – 7p…7 days a week.” I suddenly found myself celebrating the fact that my boss could not read minds…as I flung into a mental diatribe of insults laced with choice 4 letter words. As my heart dropped into my gut…..I realized that there was a new order….a new paradigm in which we were expected to perform.  . Even though several years have passed since that occurrence, we still...
